Who is Travis Scott?
Jacques Bermon Webster II was born on April 30, 1992, in Houston, Texas. His stage name, Travis Scott, combines the real name “Scott” from his favorite artist Kid Cudi and his favorite uncle’s name of “Travis”.
He is known globally as a singer, songwriter, rapper, video producer, and record producer. He’s also the partner of media personality Kylie Jenner with whom he has two children.
Scott was raised by his grandmother in Houston until the age of 6 and then lived with his parents in the nearby suburbs. His father was an entrepreneur, and his mother worked for Apple.
However, the Webster family has a musical history. His grandfather was a jazz composer, and his father was a soul musician. During his high school years, Scott participated in musical theater.
He briefly attended the University of Texas at San Antonio before dropping out to pursue his career as a musician.
His musical career began when he released his first EP on MySpace in 2008 with friend Chris Holloway. Over the next two years, he would release two more self-produced musical projects with another band.
The group disbanded in 2012. Scott relocated to New York briefly before returning to his home city of Houston and then relocating to Los Angeles where he came to the attention of fellow rapper T.I.
Travis Scott Controversy
Travis Scott received widespread public attention for the mass casualty incident that took place at the Astroworld Festival on November 5, 2021, in Houston, Texas.

Travis Scott Quotes
I’m just here for good times, man. I want people to have the best time ever. Especially if they’re around me.
You can’t buy vision, and you can’t buy aesthetic.
I feel like everything needs to be stylized; that’s always been my mindset.
I don’t need a stage to perform. We just need something to stand on.
There are people who take fashion at different levels, but personally, I’m just a kid with it.
My work ethic is crazy. I’m a producer, an artist, and a video director.
I’m not into just one thing; I always felt like I had to have my hand in everything revolving around what I do, whether it’s directing videos, making beats, making music, performing.
You’ve gotta really touch people to move them to buy your records.
I see hip-hop as going in a self-managing place. It’s very culturally controlled and artist-controlled. It’s not really based on a label anymore. Everything is pretty much in the control of the artist. Which is amazing.
I want first and foremost to help other artists, launch new names, to provide opportunities. I want to do for them what happened to me, but better.
Key Lessons from Travis Scott’s Career
1. Whatever You Do, Do It with Style
One key lesson from Travis Scott’s career is to do everything with style. Adding your personal touch to all that you do makes it your own.
To develop your aesthetic, get to know who you are, what you like, and what you’re about. Then, translate that aesthetic into your everyday life.
2. Elevate and Collaborate
Another key lesson from Scott’s career is this: As you achieve success, don’t forget where you came from — or where you’re going.
Work to help others get ahead and collaborate to take yourself further. Instead of seeing life as a competition, be the person who helps everyone succeed.
Scott has a hand in every part of his career. He’s not just singing and writing songs. He’s producing, collaborating on merchandise, and diving into fashion to help create new looks.
Scott may party hard, but he hustles hard, too.
Even outside of the music industry, it’s possible to be innovative with the ways we make money and live our lives.
Having a hands-on attitude doesn’t have to be about trying to control everything. Instead, it’s taking the initiative to be an active participant in your own life.
Scott’s most controversial lesson involves raging. In a GQ interview, Scott explains what he means by this concept.
While raging has certainly contributed to injury and death at his concerts and could be viewed as irresponsible, there’s another perspective.
Scott’s message could be interpreted as enjoying life to the fullest rather than passively observing it.
While advocating substance abuse may be a part of his message, it’s possible to fully embrace living your best life without it.
Travis Scott’s career, like many others, began on social media but has come far from its humble origins.
His $60 million net worth will likely only increase as he releases the next studio album and the film inspired by it.
Utopia is coming, and we can expect to see more from Travis Scott as he continues to create, hustle, and rage his way to greater success.
