Viggo Peter Mortensen Jr. R, better known as Viggo Mortensen, is an American actor, writer, director, producer, musician and multimedia artist.

Early Life

Viggo was born in Watertown, New York on October 20, 1958, son of Grace Gamble and Viggo Peter Mortensen Sr. They both met in Norway.

The family moved first to Venezuela, then Denmark and finally settled in Argentina. Viggo attended primary school and became completely fluent in Spanish.

Viggo was 11 when his parents divorced and he returned along with his brothers to the United States with his mother. He spent the rest of his childhood in the state of New York. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1976. 

He later attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish studies and politics.

After graduating he went to Europe, he lived for some time in England and then Spain, he later returned to Denmark.

There he worked different jobs such as driving trucks and selling flowers. He later returned to the United States to pursue what he really wanted, an acting career.

Viggo was married to singer Exene Cervenka and they have a son together.

They divorced in 1997. Viggo then met his actual partner, the Spanish actress Ariadna Gil in 2009; they are still a couple as of today.
