9 Side Hustles for Stay-at-Home Moms to Make Money in 2023

In this article, we’ll explore some great side hustles for stay-at-home moms.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably an amazing busy mom looking for smart ways to make some extra money. Did I guess? Well, you’re not alone.

Many moms are turning to side hustles to bring in some extra cash and balance a busy lifestyle. From online teaching to freelance writing and consulting, the possibilities are endless.

Best Side Hustles for Stay-at-Home Moms

As more and more women are joining the side hustle world, there’s never been a better time to get started.

What follows are our favorite side hustle ideas we choose for you.

1. Dropshipping

As I mentioned in some of my other articles, one of my favorite ways to earn extra money is dropshipping.

In fact, I think dropshipping is one of the best side hustles for stay-at-home moms.

With no inventory or warehouse space required, dropshipping is a low-cost and low-risk way to start a business. All you need to do is build your online store and choose one or more suppliers. You can curate a selection of products to sell and set your own prices.

Also, you want to make sure to analyze your competitors in order to choose a competitive price for each product.

Going back to dropshipping, it works like this: Once an order is placed on your shop, the supplier will ship the product directly to the final customer.

As the store owner, you’ll make a profit from the difference between the wholesale and retail prices. With no overhead costs, dropshipping is a smart way for stay-at-home moms to make some extra money.

Many store owners set up their shop through Shopify and link it to their AliExpress account. This way whenever a customer places an order on their Shopify store, the item gets ordered on AliExpress and the supplier sends it directly to the final customer.

How much can you make with a dropshipping business?

If you’re willing to work for that, after one year you own a dropshipping business you can easily make $1,500-$2,000 per month after expenses.

2. Proofreading

Proofreading is the process of thoroughly checking written documents for accuracy and consistency. It involves checking for typos, grammar and spelling mistakes, as well as format and style issues.

It’s basically the last step before a document is ready to be published.

You can work as a proofreader from the comfort of your home and you don’t need a fancy degree for that. All you need is a keen eye and good grammar skills.

And you can easily find clients who need proofreading services, such as authors, bloggers, and businesses. Some great platforms where you can find prospects are Fiverr, Upwork and Freelancer.

One of the main benefits of this side hustle is you can set your own rates and organize your schedule depending on how busy you are. Obviously, you also want to check your competitors rates before starting.

How much can you make as a proofreader?

Most proofreaders make $15 to $25 per hour.

3. Become a Virtual Assistant

As a stay-at-home mom, you can easily start a virtual assistant business and make money. A virtual assistant offers remote administrative support to businesses, helping them with tasks such as managing emails, data entry, scheduling, publishing content on social media platform and more.

All you need to get started is a laptop and a reliable internet connection. You can create your own schedule and choose the clients you take on.

With the right skills and experience, you can turn your virtual assistant business into a profitable side hustle.

Now you may ask: “Ok, but where can I find clients?”

As for proofreading, you can create a profile on platforms like Fiverr, Freelancer and Upwork and start pitching businesses and employers. You can also find prospects in Facebook groups, on LinkedIn and on Twitter.

Keep in mind that on social media there are plenty of communities of entrepreneurs and business owners who need help with administrative tasks, all you have to do is to find them and promote yourself.

How much can you earn working as virtual assistant?

According to ZipRecruiter, the average salary for a virtual assistant is around $59,000/year. However, some virtual assistants can make significantly more depending on their expertise and client base.

4. Blogging

Well, if you have read some of my content, you probably know this is my favorite one.

Starting a blog is a relatively easy process. It’s also a low-risk investment. The first step is to choose your niche. Choose something you are passionate and knowledgeable about. Think of it about that topic (or set of topics) about which you could talk about for hours without feeling tired.

Do some keyword research to see if people actually look for answers about your topics.

Once you know your niche, you’ll need to choose a domain name and hosting provider.

Then, you will need to install a blogging platform such as WordPress – keep in mind that most hosting providers include WordPress and they install it for you.

Once all that is done, you can start customizing your blog by choosing a theme. Once your blog is set up, you can start writing posts about your favorite topics.

If you choose low-competition keywords, you should start to get some good traffic after three to six months. Make sure the keywords you choose have a good search volume too.

A good idea to get more traffic is to also create pins on Pinterest to diversify traffic – so that you don’t only rely on organic search.

Once you start receiving traffic to your blog, you can monetize it through the following methods:

  • display ads (you can start with Adsense or Ezoic);
  • affiliate marketing (you can join affiliate programs like Amazon associates, share a sale, uncommon goods);
  • sponsored posts.

How much can you make blogging?

The amount of money you can make blogging depends on how you decide to monetize your blog. Most bloggers make at least $1,500/month.

Some more experienced site owners make $10,000 and more every month.

5. Website Flipping

Website flipping is the process of buying (or creating) and selling websites for a profit.

It involves identifying websites with potential and then either improving them or rebranding them and selling them for a higher price.

Website flippers often buy websites that are already set up and then rebrand and monetize them. This can be a great way for anyone to make a quick profit, with the potential for long-term returns if done correctly.

Two great platforms where you can buy and sell websites are:

To give you an idea of how much you can make with a website monetized only with display ads, consider that the average price of a site that makes $1,000/month is around $40,000.

Imagine for how much you can sell a site that earns $15,000 or $20,000 per month. You can buy a house with that amount of money.

6. Online Teaching

This is one of my favorite side hustles.

If you think about it, starting an online teaching business is a great way to make money on the side. You can teach classes in areas you are knowledgeable in, such as music, languages, or any other topics.

You can create your online course on Teachable or Thinkific or upload it on platforms like Udemy or Skillshare. Once you have everything ready, you can then promote it on social media, on your blog (if you have one), or in your newsletter.

Some platforms like Teachable also give you the option to start an affiliate program. This means that you can easily get other people to promote your course – and consequently reach a wider audience.

You can also offer private classes through platforms like Fiverr and set your own rates. You can also use a platform such as Tutor.com or Chegg to connect with potential students.

How much can you make teaching online?

Teachers can earn anywhere from $10 to $50 per hour depending on the subject they teach and the level of experience they have.

If you have an online course you can earn even more in passive income. In general, online courses that cost more than $100 can earn you at least $500 per month in profits.

7. Start a Print on Demand Business

Managing your print on demand business is one of the best side hustles for stay-at-home moms.

A POD business is a business model where a customer places an order on your online shop, and then your supplier fulfills each order and ships it to the final customer.

It is a great option for busy people who don’t want to worry about keeping inventory or managing a warehouse. To start a print on demand business all you need to do is:

  • Create the designs (you can use Canva to create images with transparent background),
  • Create the product templates (you can use Printful or Printify),
  • Set up the shop (you can use Etsy, which is free, or Shopify which costs ~$29/month),
  • Link your shop with Printful or Printify
  • Manage the incoming orders.

How much can you make with a print on demand business?

The amount of money you can earn with a print on demand business depends on how well you market and promote your products. And obviously, it depends on how much traffic you are able to drive to your online store.

The more traffic you receive, the more sales you will make. According to my personal experience selling print on demand mugs, the average profit margin on print on demand products is around 50%, which means that for every $100 in sales you make, you can expect to earn around $50 in profits.

Obviously, this can vary based on the number of sales and the cost of the products.

8. Start a YouTube Channel

To start making money on YouTube, you must create a unique channel using a Google account.

Before creating your videos, you can do some keyword research using tools like Ahrefs, so that you have a good idea of what topics people actually look for on YouTube.

You should then create content that resonates with your audience and promote your channel and videos on social media, in emails and other online platforms to build an audience.

Once you have enough subscribers and watch hours, you can apply to join the YouTube’s Partner Program. This way, you will be able to earn money every time people watch your videos.

However, keep in mind that you can make money even before joining the YT Partner Program. In particular, you can monetize your channel through affiliate marketing, promoting your own merchandise and with sponsored content or brand deals.

How much can you make with a monetized YouTube channel?

The monthly earnings on YouTube depend on the number of subscribers and views your channel receives. According to YouTube’s monetization policy, creators who are in the YouTube Partner Program are eligible to receive ad revenue when their videos are viewed.

The more subscribers and views you have, the more money you can make. According to Business Insider, some creators with more than 1 million subscribers make more than $400K per year.

9. Become a Social Media Manager

Social media management is one of the best side hustles for stay-at-home moms. And if you think about it, it’s a great way to make money from home while your kids are at school.

You don’t need any fancy qualifications or prior experience; all you need is good organizational skills, knowledge of social media trends, and some good marketing skills.

You can use platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, or Freelancer to find clients, or create a website and market yourself by sending out press releases and networking with potential clients.

As a social media manager, you can help businesses improve their social media presence and build better relationships with their customers so they can make more sales.

How much can you make per month working as a Social Media Manager?

The amount of money you can make every month as a social media manager depends on the size of your client base and the complexity of the job.

Generally speaking, the more experience and qualifications you have, the more you can charge. According to Glassdoor, the average salary for a social media manager is around $52,750 per year, or $4,395 per month, but this can vary based on the number of clients, and your tasks.

Final Thoughts

Overall, side hustles can be a great way for stay-at-home moms to earn extra income. With a variety of options to choose from, there is something for everyone. Some moms may prefer to work from home, while others may want to get out and about.

Whatever the case may be, side hustles can provide a great opportunity for anyone to make some extra money and have fun doing it.
