How to Get 1000 Twitter Followers for Free: My Proven Method
In this post we’ll talk about how to get 1000 Twitter followers (for free) and the method that helped me increase my following in less than a month.
In particular, we are going to explore the same steps I followed and that helped me build a presence on the platform. We will also see what happened at every step.
Steps to Increase Your Twitter Followers for Free
Choose your niche
This may sound obvious, but it’s not. Choosing a niche and sticking to it is essential if you want to grow on Twitter.
To find the perfect niche, I asked myself the following questions:
- What is my area of expertise?
- What am I really passionate about?
- What is the topic I would talk about for hours without feeling tired?
A great bio
Once you know how you want to position yourself on Twitter, make sure to create a great profile. Craft a compelling bio, so that whenever someone visits your profile they want to follow you.
Tell people who you are and why they should follow you.
Find your target community
Once you choose your area of interest, and before you start publishing tweets with valuable information, you need to find your target community.
How do you do that?
Simple, find the top Twitter accounts that consistently publish content about your target topic and start following them. These shouldn’t be just “popular” accounts.
Only focus on real accounts that represent experts like you and that consistently tweet great content.
Observe those accounts, how often they post, the type of content they post and the type of content their followers mostly respond to.
Engage in conversations and show your knowledge and experience
At this point, you should start to engage with these accounts. Reply to their tweets showing your topic expertise and start to get noticed by people in your community.
Don’t forget to be kind and friendly with everyone.
You will start to get your first followers. Don’t expect 100 followers in one day, this is still a slow phase, but it’s an important step.
Share valuable information (with screenshots)
Once you have your first followers, start tweeting the same type of content you see trending in your target community.
For example, imagine you’re in the e-commerce niche. You noticed that the top Twitter profiles in your niche get a lot of likes when they share screenshots of their revenue or of their performance.
Tweet a screenshot of your online store monthly revenue and explain how you did that.
Here’s an example of the engagement one of my tweets got after doing something similar:
A great way to publish content on Twitter is through threads. This way you can publish long-form content.
To create a Twitter thread, all you have to do is share a tweet as usual, then comment your own tweet with the rest of the content. You can add more than one comment, depending on how long the content you want to share is.
Here’s an example of a thread: 8 Things That Will Kill Your Mental Strength.
Tag top profiles in your niche (no more than once a week)
I did this quite a lot at the beginning. And believe me, it helped me gain visibility in my community. Now people tag me in their posts.
You can tag people to ask a question about a hot topic, or to thank them for having inspired you with their content on Twitter.
I did both.
Again, this step is incredibly powerful, if you know how to do that. Just do not overdo it. Limit the “tag popular profile” thing to once a week.
Polls
Another great way to get people interact more with you is to publish polls. This can help increase engagement with your content in the long term.
Here’s an example of a great poll people are likely to interact with. Look how many views and how many votes.
My Experience and How I Got 1000 Real Twitter Followers for Free (In Less Than a Month)
As you can imagine, to get 1000 twitter followers in less than a month, I followed all the above-mentioned steps. Right now I have more than 1000 followers and they’re increasing every day.
Here are a few things that helped me achieve this result in such a short time:
- I observed the top profiles in my niche;
- As I mentioned before, I engaged with them and tagged them from time to time in my tweets to thank them for having inspired me;
- I was consistent;
- I joined the Tweet100 challenge;
- I’ve always replied to comments.
After two weeks I already had 500 followers.
What happens when you reach 500 followers on Twitter?
Once you reach 500 followers on Twitter you see a significant increase in engagement (if those followers are real). That’s when you should start to tweet even more often and provide your target audience with valuable and useful content.
And that’s what I did. Once I hit the 500 followers milestone I started to tweet more and share a lot of helpful information about my niche.
People started retweeting more, popular accounts liked and commented on my tweets and ten days later I hit 1000 followers.
What happens when you reach 1000 followers on Twitter?
When you reach 1000 followers on Twitter, you will see an increase in engagement. People in your niche may start tagging you at this point.
If you keep tweeting consistently and sharing great content with your audience, building a presence on the platform will feel much easier than before. People will visit your profile and follow you more often and you may start noticing a rapid growth on the platform.
Twitter Blue
When I reached 1500 followers I decided to subscribe to Twitter blue. When you subscribe to Twitter blue, your tweets get more visibility, and it costs less than $9 per month. I think it’s a great choice for creators who are serious about building a presence on the platform.
Can you Make Money on Twitter?
The answer is yes, you can make money on Twitter and there are several ways to monetize your content on the platform. You can see if you are eligible for some of the official monetization methods on Twitter, you can promote your own products, or you can try affiliate marketing.
Twitter monetization
First of all, here are the official monetization methods on Twitter – just keep in mind that not everyone is eligible:
- Amplify Pre-Roll (if you publish videos on the platform);
- Tips;
- Super Follow (available only to a small group of accounts at the moment).
Now, these are not the only ways you can make money on Twitter. In fact, you can make money through the platform in other ways as well.
Let me explain. If you share amazing, helpful content with your audience, you will slowly earn their trust. This step is key. And this takes us to the next point.
Affiliate marketing
At that point, you can start promoting products and services you have tried and you believe in. You can use affiliate links so that you will receive a commission every time someone purchases one of those products.
Sell your own product and services
You can even create your own digital product or online course and promote it on your profile or at the end of your threads.
Newsletter
Something many creators do on the platform is promoting their own newsletter. Then, through their newsletter they sell:
- Their own digital product,
- Their own online course,
- Their own software,
- Someone else’s product or service through affiliate links.
As you can see there are many different options; from my experience I can tell you all of these work, you just have to choose the right one for you and for your niche.
